Apple facing new iTunes lawsuit
Updated: Friday March 14 2008

Apple is facing another patent infringement lawsuit relating to the iPod and iTunes after settling with Burst.com in 2006 with a licensing agreement.

The new iTunes lawsuit comes from ZapMedia Services, who claims Apple's iTunes and iPod infringe on their patent for a "platform and vision for the enjoyment of digital media assets".

The technologies that Apple is said to have infringed relate to media library database server applications and how they access assets.

The lawsuit, filed in the US District Court in Texas, claims damages from Apple with the assertion is that the computer company knew about ZapMedia's patent but pressed on in a "manner that is objectively reckless".

"When someone takes our vision and our intellectual property without a license after several attempts, we have no option but to protect it through every means available to us", ZapMedia's lawyer said in a statement.
